Nilah & Company: Wedding Dress Alterations and Custom Clothing Designs

At Nilah & Company, we specialize in wedding dress alterations aimed at meeting our clients’ specific needs. We have experience in working with a variety of different types of gowns, ranging from traditional wedding dresses to Indian saris. We’re also quite comfortable performing wedding dress alterations on vintage gowns, so if you’re wearing your grandmother’s dress be sure to consult us for a perfect fit.

In order to ensure you have your dress on time for your wedding day, we prefer to start the process of dress alteration with an initial fitting 4 months before your wedding day. If time is more limited, don’t hesitate to contact us. Alterations may still be possible.

Don’t wait until a month before your wedding just because you are working on improving your figure. We understand that this is typical for brides, and so even if we begin working on dress alterations much earlier, we have a final fitting close to the wedding. While some adjustments will be made later, the hem and bustle will not change, so the sooner we can start work, the better.

Preparing for Your First Wedding Dress Alteration Session

For your first fitting, be sure that you have your gown and the shoes you intend to wear on your wedding day. Having your wedding shoes is important because they impact how we’ll make alterations to your hem and bustle. The first fitting will involve the pinning of your dress and plenty of conversation about all the preparations for your wedding. It’s a chance to enjoy your dress and imagine what it will look like on you at the ceremony. This is also a chance for you to share with us details about your wedding; we always love to hear everyone’s story of how they met along with how the planning is going. At this fitting we are here to answer any and all questions you have. This is when you see exactly how the alteration process will work, and what we can do to raise that seemingly tricky hem, or how we can build up strapless dresses. Normally the first fitting runs about an hour, but we never put a time limit on how long you can stay. This is also a great time to try on veils. We offer a wide variety of veils from classic and regal to dramatic and romantic.

In some cases we do need brides to come in for a second fitting especially if we are doing more extensive alterations and modifications to the gown. But in most cases, we only need to see you one other time after this initial fitting and that is two weeks before your wedding. At this point the gown will be altered to fit you. At this final fitting we do any needed tweaks based on how your body has changed or if you decide to add or take away certain details. The only element missing is the pressing of the gown. The dress won’t be pressed until the day before you pick it up.

Wedding Dress Alterations Philadelphia and Wedding Dress Alterations NYC

If you’re looking for wedding dress alterations in Philadelphia or New York, Nilah & Company is a perfect match. We have the pleasure of being the preferred seamstress in the Philadelphia area for Kleinfelds. We have serviced many New York clients as well as people from all over the country. You can’t put a price on quality, service, and trust. Altering your wedding gown is not like hemming a pair of pants. Brides need to be able to trust that their gown is being taken care of by someone who really knows what they are doing. Since most brides only need to come to us for two fittings we are able to service brides from all over. Philadelphia is an easy train ride from most destinations up and down the east coast. We are also located conveniently on the I-95 corridor for easy accessibility.

We operate on an appointment only basis and try to work around the schedules of our busy brides. Monday to Wednesday we take evening appointments and we also take day appointments Thursday to Saturday. It is our goal to be as accessible as possible to each and every bride as well as her family. So no matter where you are coming from be it Philadelphia, New York, Boston, or California we ensure the personal touch and quality in service that each and every bride deserves.
